Venice AI markets itself as private, uncensored AI — and its pricing page says you can start for free. That part is true. But “free” on Venice comes with real limits, and the plan that actually unlocks video generation and explicit images costs money. We tested the free tier hands-on in October 2026 and re-checked the official pricing page on October 14, 2026, so this breakdown uses current numbers, not marketing copy.
The Short Verdict
- Yes, Venice AI is free — the Free tier costs $0, needs no credit card, and gives you 10 text prompts and 15 image prompts per day.
- Free is a real tier, not a timed trial. It doesn’t expire, and it includes Venice’s privacy protections (local-only chat storage, zero data retention in Private mode).
- But free has hard walls: 0 monthly credits, so no video generation; a “Venice” watermark on images; and NSFW image generation is a paid-tier feature.
- Paid plans: Pro $18/mo, Pro Plus $68/mo, Max $200/mo. Pro is the sweet spot for most people; Pro Plus is where the credit allotment starts to mean something for video.
- The catch nobody highlights: even the $200/mo Max plan doesn’t include unlimited video — video costs credits on every plan.

One naming note: Venice’s current pricing page labels the third tier simply “Plus” in its comparison table, while its own blog and help pages still call it “Pro Plus.” Same tier, same $68 price — we’ve used “Pro Plus” throughout for consistency with our other Venice articles.
What the Free Tier Actually Gives You
We ran the free tier hands-on in October 2026 (free account, Google sign-in, 0 credits). Here’s what $0 actually buys:
- 10 text prompts per day on base models. Enough for a real creative-writing session or a genuine evaluation — not enough for heavy daily use.
- 15 image prompts per day. In our test, two images at the default settings (1:1, 1024×1024) took roughly 9 and 13 seconds each, and one scored 5/5 for quality. The image tool is not a crippled demo.
- Private, uncensored text chat. Free-tier chat includes Venice’s uncensored models and the same privacy architecture as paid plans: conversation history stored locally in your browser, zero data retention in Private mode.
- No credit card required. You can even try Venice as a guest (“Venice Guest”) before creating an account at all — see our beginner’s guide for the walkthrough.
- API access, pay-as-you-go. Free accounts can use the API by buying credits; there’s no included monthly allotment.
What Free Does NOT Give You
This is where honest pricing guides earn their keep. On the free tier:
- No video generation. Video costs credits, and free accounts get 0 credits per month. In our test, a short Wan 2.7 clip was priced at roughly 110 credits — free users simply can’t generate video.
- No NSFW image generation. Venice’s own comparison table marks it ✗ on Free, ✓ on Pro and above. Uncensored text chat: yes. Explicit images: paid only.
- Watermarked images. Free-tier images carry a small “Venice” script watermark in the corner. The “hide watermark” option exists but is paywalled behind Pro.
- No hi-res upscaling, background removal, or generative image editing — those are paid-tier features.
- Base models only. Pro, advanced, and early-access models are gated behind paid plans.
How Venice Credits Work (The Part That Confuses Everyone)
Credits are Venice’s universal currency for premium features: video generation, image upscaling, API access, and frontier models. The exchange rate is published on the pricing page: 100 credits = $1.
The math that matters:
- Pro’s 100 credits/month = $1 of value. Tokenistic. It covers roughly one short video clip. Don’t choose Pro for the credits.
- Pro Plus’s 7,500 credits/month = $75 of value. Venice’s pricing page says a ~5-second video costs under 80 credits; our hands-on test priced a Wan 2.7 clip at ~110 credits. At 80–110 credits per clip, Pro Plus covers roughly 68–93 short videos a month.
- Max’s 22,500 credits/month = $225 of value. Roughly 200–280 short clips, or sustained API usage.
- Every paid plan gets 500 one-time welcome credits — about 4–6 short video clips to start with.
- Rollover: unused credits expire on Pro, bank for 2 months on Pro Plus, and 3 months on Max.
Bottom line: if video is your use case, budget per clip, not per month. We measured real per-clip costs across five tools in our uncensored video generator comparison.
Is Pro Worth $18/Month?
For most people, yes — if you use Venice daily. Pro buys you unlimited text prompts, 1,000 images a day, all Pro models, NSFW image generation, watermark removal, and the privacy upgrades (TEE / E2EE modes, custom characters, encrypted chat backup). Compared to ChatGPT Plus at $20/month, Pro is $2 cheaper and adds image/video generation plus uncensored models.
Skip Pro if you only chat a few times a day — the free tier’s 10 text prompts will cover you. Upgrade to Pro Plus instead if video or API use is your real workload; that’s the first tier where the credit allotment is meaningful rather than symbolic.
Annual Billing: What You Actually Save
Venice offers annual billing discounts, confirmed on the pricing page October 14, 2026:
- Pro: save 16.7% — about $15/month effective ($180/year instead of $216).
- Pro Plus: save 10% — about $61.20/month effective ($734.40/year instead of $816).
- Max: save 10% — about $180/month effective ($2,160/year instead of $2,400).
Our advice: start monthly. Venice’s monthly plans have no lock-in, and you can switch to annual once you know which tier you actually use. The annual saving on Pro (~$36/year) isn’t worth a year-long commitment to a tool you haven’t tested yet.
Is There a Venice AI Discount or Promo Code?
Venice runs a referral program — “Give $10, Get $10”: share your link and both sides get $10 in credit when the new user subscribes. Our referral link is /go/venice. Beyond that, Venice doesn’t run a standing promo-code program, and we don’t list codes we can’t verify. We cover this in detail in our Venice AI promo code guide — check there before paying full price, since offers change.
Free Alternatives Worth Knowing About
If Venice’s free limits don’t fit you, these genuinely free options cover different needs:
- Perchance AI — free forever, no sign-up, unlimited-ish image and text generation. Weaker writing quality than Venice, but zero cost and zero friction.
- Raphael AI — free image generation with no sign-up. In our test it cut us off after 4 images despite “unlimited” marketing, but it’s still useful for quick generations.
- Grok — free chat tier with unusually light filtering; its $10/month SuperGrok plan undercuts Venice Pro if chat is all you need.
None of them match Venice’s combination of uncensored models, privacy architecture, and a 230+ model router — but for casual use, the free tier of any of them is a legitimate $0 option.

- Upgrade only when you hit a wall that matters to you: video, NSFW images, watermark removal, or unlimited text.
FAQ
Is Venice AI really free?
Yes. The Free tier is $0 forever (not a trial), requires no credit card, and includes 10 text prompts and 15 image prompts per day plus Venice’s privacy protections. Video generation, NSFW images, and premium models require a paid plan.
Does the Venice AI free trial expire?
There is no expiring trial — the Free tier is permanent. The daily prompt counters reset every 24 hours. Paid plans (Pro, Pro Plus, Max) are monthly subscriptions you can cancel anytime; see our cancellation guide.
Can I generate videos on the free plan?
No. Video generation costs credits, and the free tier includes 0 credits per month. Every paid plan includes 500 one-time welcome credits, enough for roughly 4–6 short clips.
Is Venice AI free for NSFW content?
Partially. Uncensored text chat is available on the free tier. NSFW image generation is a paid-tier feature — Venice’s own pricing table marks it unavailable on Free. See our full Venice review for the test results.
Which Venice plan is best for beginners?
Start on Free. If you use Venice daily and hit the 10-text-prompt limit regularly, Pro at $18/month is the right first upgrade. Choose Pro Plus ($68/month) only if you generate video or use the API regularly.
Does Venice AI offer a student discount?
Venice doesn’t advertise a student discount. The referral program (Give $10, Get $10) is the main way to reduce your first bill. See our promo code guide for current offers.
Is Venice AI safe?
Venice’s privacy architecture — local-only chat storage, zero data retention in Private mode, and end-to-end encryption options — is the same across free and paid tiers. We assessed its safety in depth in our Is Venice AI Safe? guide.
How does Venice free compare to ChatGPT free?
ChatGPT’s free tier gives you more text prompts but heavier content filtering and data retention for training. Venice’s free tier gives you fewer prompts but uncensored models and stronger privacy. We compared the two platforms head-to-head in Venice AI vs ChatGPT.
