Venice AI is the uncensored-by-design AI platform this site keeps coming back to: private chat, image, and video generation with a model router that lets you switch between dozens of AI models in one interface. In our hands-on Venice review, it earned an 8/10 — the highest score we’ve given any uncensored platform. But the interface can look busy the first time you open it. This guide walks you through every step, from sign-up (or skipping it entirely) to your first image, based on our real testing and a verified walkthrough of the site in October 2026.

The Short Verdict

  • Sign-up is optional. You can try Venice as a guest (“Venice Guest”) without creating an account at all. Creating one just saves your history and unlocks the free daily allowance.
  • Everything runs through a model picker. Chat, images, and video each have their own roster — Venice routes your prompt to whichever model you select, including uncensored-flagged models like Venice Uncensored 1.2.
  • The free tier is real: 10 text prompts and 15 image prompts per day at $0, no credit card. Video generation costs extra credits on every plan.
  • Privacy is the point: four privacy tiers from anonymized to end-to-end encrypted, and chat history stays stored locally in your browser.

Step 1: Sign Up (or Don’t)

Head to venice.ai/sign-up. You get five one-click options — Apple, Discord, Google, and two more social buttons — plus a standard email-and-password form. In our testing, the Google sign-in took seconds and landed us directly in the app with the free tier active.

But here’s the part most guides skip: you don’t have to sign up at all. The sign-up page itself offers “try Venice without creating an account,” and visiting venice.ai/chat as a visitor opens a full guest interface labeled “Venice Guest.” You can chat, browse the model picker, and see the whole layout before committing to an account. Creating an account is what saves your conversations and grants the daily free allowance — but the try-before-you-register option means there’s zero friction to evaluate it first.

Venice’s own homepage promise here is explicit: “Join millions using Venice for private, uncensored AI. No credit card required.”

Step 2: Learn the Layout

The app has two faces. Chat (venice.ai/chat) is the default view: a clean chat interface with a sidebar and an input box at the bottom. Studio is the creation hub, with tabs for Images, Edit, Audio, Video, Movie Editor, and Library.

The sidebar gives you:

  • Search — an AI search mode alongside chat
  • Chat — standard conversation interface
  • Agentic Chat — a more autonomous mode for multi-step tasks
  • Studio — image/video/audio generation
  • Folders — organize conversations
  • Upgrade — plan management

New users also see quick-start chips in the chat box — “Learn about the world,” “Generate any image,” “Generate AI Video,” “Surprise Me” — which are the fastest way to understand what each mode does. Clicking one fills in a starter prompt.

Step 3: Pick Your Model (This Is the Whole Trick)

Venice isn’t one AI — it’s a router. The dropdown in the chat interface (it says “Auto” by default) opens the model picker with five tabs: Text, Images, Text-to-Video, Image-to-Video, Video-to-Video. Switching models is instant and free, and it’s the single most important skill on the platform.

Text models (verified October 2026) include:

  • Venice Uncensored 1.2 — Venice’s own uncensored model; this is the one to pick when the filter is your concern
  • GLM 4.7 Flash Heretic — explicitly tagged Private / Uncensored / Reasoning / 200K, described in the app as “an uncensored experimental version … optimized for creative freedom”
  • Auto — lets Venice choose for you (the default)
  • Mainstream options: Claude Fable 5.1, Claude Opus 5, Claude Sonnet 4.6, Grok 4.7, GPT-6 Astra, DeepSeek V4.1 Flash, Gemini 3.8 Flash, Kimi K3, Qwen 3.8 Max, Qwen 3.7 Plus, GLM 5.3 Flash, GLM 4.6, Google Gemma 4 31B Instruct

Some models carry an “Anonymous” tag — Venice’s privacy tiers in action, routing through infrastructure where the model provider can’t tie requests to you. If privacy is why you’re here, look for those tags.

Our recommendation: leave it on Auto for everyday use. Switch to Venice Uncensored 1.2 or GLM 4.7 Flash Heretic for creative writing and anything where mainstream filters get in the way. This is the exact setup that earned Venice its 8/10 in our review.

Step 4: Generate Images (Free, With One Catch)

Click Generate any image or open Studio → Images. The default model is Z-Image Turbo, and the picker offers fourteen more: Flux 3, Flux 2 Max, the GPT Image 2.5 pair (Flare and Sunburst), Grok Imagine 2.0 and its high-quality SOTA variant, Krea 2 Turbo, Luma Uni-1 Max, Nano Banana 2 and 2 Lite, Qwen Image 3 and 3 Pro, Qwen Image 2 Pro, and Seedream V5 Pro.

In our hands-on test (October 2026, free account), two images took roughly 9 and 13 seconds at the default 1:1, 1024×1024 WEBP output, both at genuinely high quality — one scored 5/5. After each image, Venice offers Download, Copy, Upscale, Edit, Regenerate, Remix, Create video from image, and Share.

The catch: free-tier images carry a small “Venice” script watermark in the corner. There’s a “hide watermark” option, but it’s paywalled behind Pro. Also note from Venice’s own pricing comparison: the NSFW image generation row is ✗ on Free, ✓ on Pro and above — the free tier is uncensored for text, but explicit image generation requires a paid plan. Worth knowing before you plan a project around it.

Step 5: Generate Video (Plan for Credits)

Studio → Video, or the Generate AI Video chip. Video models include Wan 3.0 (tagged Uncensored/Anonymous), Wan 3.0 Prime, Seedance 2.5 and 2.0 Enhanced, Grok Imagine 1.5, Kling O3 Pro, MiniMax H3 Max, Vidu Q3, and Wan 2.7 — covering text-to-video and image-to-video, 2–30 seconds, at 480p, 720p, or 1080p.

Here’s the honest math from our testing: a short Wan 2.7 clip costs roughly 110 credits, and the free tier has 0 credits — so video is effectively paid-only. Every paid plan gets 500 welcome credits (enough for about 4–5 short clips), then Pro adds 100 credits/month, Pro Plus 7,500, and Max 22,500. Venice’s own phrasing for Pro is worth quoting: “every model, every medium, no limits” — but the limits that remain are the credit costs for video and frontier models, so budget per clip, not per month. We measured this in detail in our video generator cost comparison.

Step 6: Set Up Privacy (Do This Before Real Use)

Privacy is Venice’s entire brand, so the settings page is worth a two-minute visit. Under Settings → General (from our test account):

  • Browsing data collection — can be switched off
  • Hide personal info — a toggle to mask personal details in prompts
  • Venice Voice — voice features, can be switched off
  • Adult content filter — listed as ON and locked (not user-adjustable)
  • Temporary chats — off by default; enable for conversations that vanish

The broader architecture, per Venice’s own site: four tiers — Anonymized, Private (“Zero data retention on self-hosted open-source models. Your prompts are never stored.”), TEE (Trusted Execution Environments), and End-to-End Encrypted. The pricing comparison confirms two more facts for every plan including free: conversation storage is local-only (your browser, not Venice’s servers) and zero data retention applies in Private mode. One gap we noted: we never found a data-retention-period control, so don’t assume timed deletion beyond temporary chats.

Step 7: Install the App (Optional)

Venice ships native mobile apps — download page at venice.ai/lp/download (note: the obvious /download URL 404s, go through the site nav). It covers iPhone, iPad, Android, and a direct Android APK (v1.17.15 at last check, rated 4.0+ on the App Store). The mobile app is the full platform — chat, models, Studio — not a stripped-down companion, so if you do most of your AI use on your phone, start there.

What the Free Tier Actually Gives You

Exact wording from Venice’s pricing page:

  • Free ($0): 10 text prompts per day · 15 image prompts per day · API access (pay with credits) · private & uncensored
  • Pro ($18/mo): unlimited text prompts · 1,000 images per day · every model, every medium
  • Pro Plus ($68/mo): everything in Pro, scaled — 7,500 credits/month with 2-month banking (Venice’s most popular plan)
  • Max ($200/mo): 22,500 credits/month with 3-month banking

Practical note: the daily counters reset every 24 hours, and the free tier is genuinely usable for testing — 10 text prompts is enough to run a real creative-writing session and see whether Venice fits you. If price is the question, we break it down further in Is Venice AI Free? Plans Explained Honestly.

5 Beginner Tips From Real Testing

  1. Start as a guest. You can evaluate the entire interface and model picker before creating an account. Sign up only when you want history saved and the daily allowance.
  2. Learn the model picker early. Ten minutes switching between Auto, Venice Uncensored 1.2, and the mainstream models teaches you more about Venice’s value than any review.
  3. For images, the defaults are fine. Z-Image Turbo at 1:1 produced 5/5-quality results in our test. Upgrade to Flux 2 Max or Grok Imagine HQ only when you have a specific reason.
  4. Don’t budget video on the free tier. With 0 credits, video generation is a paid feature. The 500 welcome credits on any paid plan are your real video allowance.
  5. Turn off data collection in Settings → General if you’re here for privacy — it’s two toggles, and it takes ten seconds.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Assuming free = unlimited. 10 text and 15 image prompts per day is generous but real. Power users hit the wall fast — that’s the Pro upsell, and it’s honest about it.
  • Expecting NSFW images on the free tier. Venice’s own comparison table marks NSFW image generation ✗ for Free. Uncensored text chat, yes; explicit images, no.
  • Ignoring the “Anonymous” tags. If you chose Venice for privacy, pick Anonymous-tagged models — that’s where the zero-retention routing actually applies.
  • Paying for Pro expecting free video. Video costs credits on top of every plan, including Pro. Check the per-clip cost before generating.

FAQ

Do I need an account to use Venice AI?

No. You can use Venice as a “Venice Guest” without creating an account — the sign-up page even offers “try Venice without creating an account.” Signing up (free) saves your chats and unlocks the 10-text / 15-image daily allowance.

Is Venice AI really free?

The free tier is real: 10 text prompts and 15 image prompts per day at $0, no credit card required, with privacy features included. Video generation and NSFW image generation require a paid plan. Full breakdown in our pricing explainer.

Is Venice AI truly uncensored?

It’s uncensored by design, with dedicated uncensored models like Venice Uncensored 1.2 and GLM 4.7 Flash Heretic (explicitly tagged “uncensored” in the app). The one verified exception: the adult content filter is listed as ON and locked in settings, and NSFW image generation is a paid-tier feature. See our full review for the test results.

Which Venice model should a beginner pick?

Leave it on Auto for general use. For creative writing or anything where mainstream AI lectures you, switch to Venice Uncensored 1.2. For images, the default Z-Image Turbo is excellent.

Can I use Venice AI on my iPhone?

Yes — native iOS app (iPhone and iPad), Android app, and a direct Android APK, all from venice.ai/lp/download. The mobile app is the full platform, not a lite version.

How does Venice compare to Grok for uncensored chat?

Both are in our top tier, but they’re different tools: Grok is a mainstream chatbot with unusually light filtering; Venice is uncensored-by-design with a 230+ model router and privacy-first architecture. We compared them head-to-head in Venice AI vs Grok.

Can I cancel Venice Pro easily?

Yes — web subscriptions cancel from your subscription settings, and you keep Pro until the end of your billing period. Step-by-step instructions (including the refund caveats) are in our cancellation guide.
